Multi Trade Technician III

Location:

Buildings and Properties Department, Cornell Agri Tech Campus, Geneva, NY.

Overview

As a service and maintenance professional in a multi-trade environment, the Multi Trade Technician III supports Cornell Agri Tech’s experimental research facilities with electrical work, building systems maintenance, and specialty installations. This full-time position is 97.5% FTE and supports the campus mission of research excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Install, diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and systems for Agri Tech Experiment Station, including lighting, motor controls, building controls, and scientific equipment.
  • Independently troubleshoot complex systems; plan and execute installations from start to finish.
  • Provide technical leadership on field jobs and mentor other technicians.
  • Identify and procure necessary parts and supplies in coordination with the Electrician Lead.
  • Maintain fire alarm, exhaust fan, air handling unit, motor control, and substation battery systems.
  • Assist with custodial, warehouse, utility plant, and grounds trade shops as required.
  • Follow safety regulations and policies, including ARC flash prevention, lead, asbestos, and confined space procedures.
  • Acquire and maintain required licenses and special knowledge for specialized equipment.
  • Set up and tear down for special events as requested.
  • Enter work order data, materials, labor, and work log data into Maximo daily with accuracy.
  • Maintain hand tools and diagnostic equipment needed for job duties.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful background checks.
  • Computer proficiency for communications, time entry, scheduling, product research, and online training.
  • Discretion and tact in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
  • Highly motivated, innovative, and reliable in the workplace.
  • Teamwork and customer service orientation.
  • Availability for 24‑hour emergencies as needed.

Electrical Trade Specific Requirements
  • Electrical trade school or union certification.
  • Experience as maintenance electrician in a facility.
  • Proficient in EMT and rigid conduit installation with high‑quality workmanship.
  • Motor control troubleshooting, design, and load calculation expertise.
  • Estimate skills in all electrical aspects.
  • 5–7 years of commercial electrical work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of National Electric Code.
  • Read and interpret shop/field drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Inspection capability in confined and isolated areas.
Preferred Additional Experience
  • Refrigeration and mechanical expertise, at least 5 years in refrigeration.
  • Universal Technician certification per 40 CFR Part 82.
