Overview

The opportunity: Senior Legal and Regulatory Expert - Fixed Term Contract 10 months. Being part of HSBC in Switzerland, you’ll help evolve and grow our business. We are seeking a senior Legal and Regulatory Compliance professional on a fixed-term contract to join the Risk & Regulatory Compliance Team to support development and enhancement projects of the Bank. What you will do
  • Assist the Country Head of Regulatory Affairs & PBRS Head of Regulatory Compliance with the Regulatory Compliance mandate, applying senior legal and compliance expertise to regulatory implementation of specific projects, including client classification and cross-border set-up enhancements, establishment of collaboration frameworks in the HSBC Group, implementation of CRD VI and Berne agreement, and review of discretionary, advisory and execution-only operating framework.
  • Conduct regulatory advisory activity focused on proper functioning of financial markets, product compliance, and conduct outcomes; provide stewardship to the First Line of Defence on Regulatory Compliance risks, local and foreign legal and regulatory requirements and developments with regards to ongoing and prospective business activities, transformation initiatives or other projects.
  • Contribute to the visibility of the Regulatory Compliance function through regular interactions with key stakeholders and departments, active engagement in forums, and by contributing to training, broadcasts and other communications on Regulatory Compliance topics.
In this role you will also
  • Engage in advisory, oversight and regulatory developments-related activities, including cross-border and licensing regulatory requirements relating to client activity.
  • Support the definition of relevant internal control framework and controls for Bank activities.
  • Support timely remediation to Compliance Assurance, Internal and External Auditor & FINMA feedback and findings; review HSBC and local Group Policies/Procedures/Governance.
  • Oversee and advise on the implementation of regulatory developments by the First Line of Defence.
  • Ensure staff are informed and advised on all regulatory compliance risks and conduct duties towards clients, related regulatory developments, PBRS’s and HSBC Group internal rules.
  • Ensure First Line of Defence performs proper review and establishes adequate controls over regulatory compliance risks.
  • Escalate material Regulatory Compliance issues and/or significant breaches to PBRS Management on a timely basis.
  • Contribute input to regular PBRS Regulatory Compliance reporting and management information, and support First Line of Defence reporting as required.
  • Assist Country Head of Regulatory Affairs & PBRS Head of Regulatory Compliance and/or PBRS Chief Compliance Officer with other tasks as required.
  • Ensure PBRS Regulatory Compliance team stays up to date as required.
  • Contribute dynamically to local and HSBC Group led project implementations, business initiatives, mitigating measures, governance processes or other initiatives as required by the Country Head and PBRS Head.
Qualifications and background
  • Bachelor/Master Degree in law / university degree.
  • Long-standing activity linked to the Swiss Financial market with excellent knowledge of Swiss laws and regulations, FINMA Circulars, regulatory matters and initiatives affecting the industry, including applicable foreign law aspects.
  • Solid and proven practical operational experience in the legal & compliance financial/private banking industry; detailed understanding of Private Banking business and financial products, services and market.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong operational embedding capacities and investigative skills.
  • Service-oriented attitude with ability to provide practical advice and solutions to meet business needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player; proactive and front-running.
