JOB OVERVIEW
GENERAL PROGRAM SUPPORT BY THE MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Designing mechanical systems for buildings, machinery, and other equipment. This includes developing specifications, selecting materials, and creating schematics.
- Developing and designing new mechanical products such as engines, power generators, and machine tools.
- Testing and troubleshoot mechanical systems to ensure they are safe and functioning properly.
- Supervising the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Overseeing the work of technicians and other engineers.
- Conducting research to discover new technologies and to improve existing mechanical systems and products.
- Ensuring that all mechanical systems and products comply with safety standards, including those set by regulatory agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
- Collaborating with other professionals, such as electrical engineers, software engineers, and project managers, to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the desired standard.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or higher in a related field.
- Must have strong technical skills, including knowledge of mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science, as well as proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.
- Must be able to identify and solve complex problems, often working under tight deadlines and within budget constraints.
- Must have strong communication skills to effectively communicate with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders, and to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Must have a high level of attention to detail, including the ability to identify errors and inconsistencies in designs and specifications.
- Certifications in CAD and Digital Manufacturing, Certified Systems Engineering Professional, Certified Quality Engineer or similar certificates are a plus.
- Must be licensed in the state of Illinois.
