Apprentice Lineman, Gautier Office

Overview

The First Year Apprentice will continue to improve his/her climbing skills, operate digger equipment and begin learning how to operate an aerial device. The First Year Apprentice performs numerous duties involved in the maintenance and construction of both overhead and/or underground lines. The First Year Apprentice is expected to learn the Lineman job through on-the-job training as well as through classroom-type training provided by Singing River Electric.

The First Year Apprentice must demonstrate competencies through assessment and/or job evaluation in order to progress to Lineman classifications.

Observes Lineman work on pole and anticipates Lineman's needs for material and tools.

Makes de-energized connections on overhead or underground meter poles, transformers, and other equipment.

Assists Lineman in preparing materials for use at the work site -- performs tasks as assigned by crew leader or foreman.

Performs manual labor type tasks as assigned by crew foreman such as cleaning truck, loading material, digging ditches, tamping, cutting brush, and moving materials.

Trains for Lineman position by learning on-the-job skills related to line work.

Wears appropriate work clothing, hardhat, leather gloves, safety glasses and other safety equipment as necessary.

• Eligible applicants must currently live within the service area of the assigned district office or be willing to relocate within a 45-minute commute from the assigned district office.
• Must be a graduate of the MGCCC Apprentice Lineman program or another comparable apprentice program.
• Must be willing to complete SREC's Apprentice Lineman program.
• Must possess climbing certification.
• Must have valid medical card and Class-A Commercial Driver's License.
• Must have a knowledge of framing and the erecting of single-phase structures.
• Must have a knowledge of making connections of meter loops, transformers, and other equipment on de-energized poles.
• Must have OSHA training and CPR first aid training, certifications preferred.
• Must have the ability to operate various vehicles and equipment.
• Must have a knowledge of Cooperative's safety rules and regulations.
• Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends when needed or in emergency situations.
• Must have good human relations skills to be able to communicate with employees, consumers, and the public.
• Must have reading skills to understand policies, procedures, and guidelines.
