Technical Director, Forward Deployed Engineering

Our client, a fast-growing B2B SaaS company, is hiring a Technical Director of Forward Deployed Engineering to lead and scale a forward deployed engineering team responsible for delivering technically complex customer deployments and integrations.
This role is focused on building the Forward Deployed Engineering function and leading delivery for the most complex customer initiatives. You will manage and grow the team while remaining hands‑on in technical delivery as needed. The work spans architecture, development, deployment, and ongoing customer execution.
This role is suited for someone who has built and led a forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or similar customer‑facing technical team in a SaaS environment and is comfortable working across customers, product, and engineering.
What You’ll Do- Lead the Forward Deployed Engineering function, including team structure, hiring, onboarding, and performance management
- Lead delivery of complex, high‑impact customer initiatives
- Own technical architecture, integration strategy, and deployment for customer projects
- Work directly with customer teams during implementations and integrations
- Deliver integrations with enterprise systems such as PLM, ERP, identity and access management, and data platforms
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales teams to prioritize and deliver customer work
- Develop repeatable processes and internal tooling to support and scale the Forward Deployed Engineering function
- Provide structured feedback to Product and Engineering based on customer deployments
- 5–10+ years of experience in technical roles
- 2–3+ years leading forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or similar teams in a SaaS context
- Experience building a new team or function from the ground up
- Strong technical fluency, with the ability to lead implementation when required
- Experience working with enterprise systems and complex integrations
- Experience embedding with customer teams during delivery
- Strong communication skills with internal teams and customers
