Performs highly complex work in the production and processing of various products in the Texas Correctional Industries department. The role involves monitoring inmate performance to ensure efficient operations with considerable latitude for independent sett indent judgement.

• Monitors inmates during assigned tasks; develops production standards; recommends procedure changes; reviews production to ensure quality and quantity control; monitors machinery and maintenance.
• Ensures on‑job training and safety training for inmate workers in methods and equipment.
• Prepares reports of operations and related documents.
• Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs correctional and custodial support functions; assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Education, Experience and Training
  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school, GED, or equivalent.
  • One year full‑time, wage‑earning experience in garment manufacturing OR two years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation.
  • Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of experience on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
  • Correctional custody or law‑enforcement experience preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of quality control standards.
  • Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental structure, policies, procedures, rules and regulations (preferred).
  • Knowledge of garment manufacturing (preferred).
  • Ability to Story communication ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to coordinate with staff, departments, officials, agencies and the public.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to train and supervise the work of inmates.
  • Machinery and equipment usage skills (preferred).

• Physical – ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach, grasp, pull, bend, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift 15‑44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle and equipment.
• Conditions – working inside, around machines with moving parts or objects, radiant and electrical energy, with others or alone, irregular hours, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, solvents, and traveling by car, van, bus, airplane.
• Equipment – computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, garment manufacturing machines and equipment, hand tools, forklift, pallet jack, telephone, dolly, automobile.
