Assistant Chef – HC‑One, Gateshead About the Role

HC‑One are looking for an Assistant Chef with at least a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and a strong understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points. Beyond the technical skills, we value brilliant, positive energy and a natural ability to get along with people. You’ll be organised, meet deadlines, present food attractively and follow recipes perfectly. Whenever you communicate with a resident or co‑worker, you’ll be considerate and kind.

In your role as an Assistant Chef you will cook and serve nutritious, healthy meals that our residents will love. You will provide outstanding support to the First Chef, taking charge in their absence. You will manage food stock, work out how to make the most of your budget, coach a colleague or supervise kitchen clean‑up—all while keeping resident wellbeing at the forefront.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. You must be able to recognise signs that may indicate abuse, harm or neglect, and know what to do if concerns arise. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and to undertake additional training where required. You’ll also seek appropriate advice and report concerns, including escalation if action is not taken.
