This will be done through deduction from your monthly pay over a maximum of three months. We have an exciting opportunity for a Sonographer / Accredited Vascular Scientist to assist with the delivery of training for the North East and North Cumbria Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and required to attend the screening sites within the catchment area. You will undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning in the community and support local training of the Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners.
You will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team working closely with NAAASP approved vascular units to provide an effective patient‑focused service and will be encouraged to undertake a range of training and development activities.
- Responsible for the training, supervision and quality assurance of the Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners in accordance with national and local policies.
- Undertake accurate abdominal aortic ultrasound scanning as part of the community AAA screening programme.
- Ensure all aortic ultrasound scanning is performed to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.
- Inform members of the public attending clinics and ensure they are fully aware of the implications of AAA screening.
- Provide health promotion to men identified with an aneurysm.
- Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing an efficient and effective service to patients/clients within the screening centre and screening sites.
- Undertake professional and technical training requirements as required by the North East and North Cumbria AAA Screening Programme.
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it.
- Clean driving licence and a car available for use with insurance for business purposes.
- References as specified in the initial paragraph.
- Ability to register or be registered with the DBS update service where required.
- Willingness to assist with the training, supervision and quality assurance of the screening technicians/nurse practitioners in accordance with national and local policies.
