This role will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience of all aspects of grid engineering as it is applied to zero carbon energy projects from inception to energisation.

To ensure your continuous improvement, you will be based in one of our offices on a hybrid basis with one of existing Grid team members. The role can be based in one of the following offices:
Gateshead, Kings Langley, Glasgow or Larne.

The Position

The electricity grid systems in UK and Ireland are increasingly critical factors in the successful development and operation of all of our projects. As we move increasingly toward the Net Zero whole energy system, so the significance of the grid increases further still.

Responsibilities
  • Grid feasibility assessment of new development projects
  • Analyse and present network data sets for project teams for decision making
  • Prepare cost estimates for project substation and interconnection
  • Manage grid connection liabilities and advise liability risk
  • Prepare technical appendices of Grid Applications which include Single Line Diagrams and Fault calculations
  • Support project senior grid engineers delivering grid connections of construction projects, which may include:
    • Review Grid Code and G99 technical requirements
    • Contribute in preparing 33kV to 400kV substation layouts
    • Participate in Grid Code / G99 testing
Accountabilities
  • Provide input to grid connection feasibility studies for new sites and provide grid input into new site search activities as required.
  • Help to identify optimum grid connection solutions taking into account capacity headroom, use of system charging and grid related constraint / curtailment.
  • Support the process of securing grid connection agreements (or modifications) aligned with the project strategy.
  • Support the process of identifying and tracking grid liabilities, provide advice on connection agreement strategies to help manage risk exposure.
  • Engage with procurement colleagues to capture robust information on grid connection costs and substation equipment and update internal tools.
  • Support Grid Engineers in the delivery of grid compliance to enable timely energisation and operation of projects.
  • Where required, provide support to operating projects through the Support Services team for third party projects adoption
  • Provide grid input into public consultations published by key industry stakeholders such as OFGEM, NESO, DESNZ and grid licensee companies.
Knowledge
  • Distinction in electrical Power System Analysis or equivalent module
  • Basic understanding of engineering aspects of grid connection.
  • Basic understanding of the electricity market structure in UK and Ireland.
Skills
  • Ability to learn and apply that learning in the framework of grid connection construction and grid regulation.
  • Ability to complete technical tasks to required quality to agreed timescales.
  • Effective communication, including presentation, skills to technical and non-technical audiences – written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail during preparation and review of key grid inputs.
Experience
  • Some relevant work experience.
  • Experience gained within electrical engineering or grid related discipline preferred.
Qualifications
  • Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or related subject
