Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands‑on experience with children before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, or child development?
Protocol Education is working with welcoming primary schools across Gateshead that are looking for compassionate, motivated Psychology graduates to join their classrooms as Teaching Assistants.
This role offers the chance to apply your understanding of behaviour, development, and emotional wellbeing in real classroom settings while gaining valuable experience that supports your long-term career goals.
Working hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, term time only

You’ll work directly with children who benefit from additional support with learning, emotional regulation, and classroom engagement.
Many graduates start in this role and progress into teacher training, SEN specialist positions, or postgraduate psychology routes.
What Your Days Could Look LikeYour responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Helping children with SEMH needs or additional learning support
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Supporting phonics, reading, and numeracy activities
- Assisting teachers in creating an engaging and inclusive classroom environment
- Helping pupils build confidence and independence

Previous experience with children is helpful but not essential. Your attitude, empathy, and willingness to learn are what matter most.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
