Teaching Assistant
Milk Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a variety of supportive, inclusive, and high-performing primary schools across Gateshead. We are seeking motivated and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support pupils within EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
We offer a wide selection of roles, including daily supply, short-term assignments, and long-term positions, providing flexibility to match your availability and professional ambitions.
This opportunity is well suited to experienced Teaching Assistants, Level 2 or Level 3 qualified practitioners, graduates exploring a future in teaching, or candidates with strong transferable experience.
Teaching Assistant
– Key Responsibilities
Deliver effective classroom support across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
Provide focused 1:1 and small group support in literacy and numeracy
Support the delivery of phonics programmes such as Read Write Inc. or similar
Assist with lesson preparation, classroom setup, and learning resources
Support pupils with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
Apply behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
Promote engagement, independence, and positive learning attitudes
Supervise pupils during transitions, break times, and enrichment activities
Observe, assess, and provide feedback on pupil progress
Teaching Assistant – Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates should demonstrate:
Previous experience working with children in a primary school or similar setting
A Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable)
A good understanding of the primary curriculum
Confidence supporting phonics, early reading, and numeracy
A calm, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting pupils
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
We also encourage applications from graduates or individuals with transferable experience in roles such as youth work, tutoring, mentoring, sports coaching, or care and support work.
