What skills and experience we're looking for

The Headteacher ensures high standards of provision, aligning all activities with the River Tees Multi‑Academy Trust’s strategic goals, statutory requirements, and school improvement plans. We work closely with our commissioning Local Authorities and schools so being able to build and maintain these relationships is vital. Every one of our schools has a different context so the Headteacher has responsibility for delivering approaches that we know work for all schools while also understanding the needs of individual learners, families, partners and commissioners.

We use research‑informed, evidence‑based reflective practice to develop our workforce. We care about the well‑being of our workforce and are committed to fair approaches to managing the team.

This role involves building and leading a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of excellence, efficiency, and compliance with the Academies Handbook. Our Headteachers collaborate to develop practice to help us change lives. As Headteacher you will also work with other school leaders, Trustees, the Trust central team and commissioners to create a solution‑focused environment that enables schools to flourish.

Our cohort of learners have multiple barriers to successful engagement in education. We want them all to thrive through strong attendance, positive relationships and building their skills and knowledge through our Currency, Character and Community curriculum focus. A thorough knowledge of safeguarding practice helps our Headteachers to support learners, their families and our staff team. Some learners do not attend as well as they should and the Headteacher needs to ensure that everything possible is being done to improve the attendance of each and everyone.
