We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with social, emotional and mental health needs in specialist schools across Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives and supporting their wellbeing and learning.

What you’ll be doing as a Send Teaching Assistant
  • Help create a classroom environment that’s supportive, structured, and fully inclusive
  • Encourage the pupil to build confidence, social skills, and emotional regulation
  • Respond to challenging behaviour with confidence, using de‑escalation techniques when needed
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and wider professionals to support the pupil’s overall development
Role requirements as a Send Teaching Assistant
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding procedures
  • Interpersonal and have excellent communication skills.
  • Confident in working in a challenging environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO’S and other school staff
  • Monitor and report on student progress, engagement and behaviour.
  • Assist in planning and deliver learning materials tailored to the individual needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
