Trainee Teaching Assistant

Location: Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
Contract: Term-time only, Fixed-term / permanent progression route
Hours: Part time (morning/afternoon) or full time

About the role

An excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin their career supporting children with complex needs. As a Trainee Teaching Assistant you’ll receive on-the-job training and support from experienced staff in a specialist primary setting. You will learn how to support pupils with severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and associated communication and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in delivering differentiated learning tasks
  • Help with class routines and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Support pupils with communication, interaction, behaviour, and personal care
  • Implement strategies as directed by senior staff / therapists
  • Observe, report and feedback pupil progress and concerns
Person Specification
  • A caring, patient and enthusiastic attitude with a strong desire to learn
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changing needs and behaviour
  • Commitment to SEND best practice and willingness to undertake training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
