The goal of the Gaston County Human Services Center and Division of Social Services is to foster an agency which is professionally responsive to our citizens' needs through daily caring outreach and simultaneously serve as an advocate for those in need. We strive to community-minded and community-spirited. We abide by federal, state and county operating instructions in providing services and we assist welfare recipients in attaining self-sufficiency.
An hourly salary range of $20.43 to $23.75 is anticipated for this position.
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Interview clients and research records to obtain information needed to complete over payment determinations. Work with employers, landlords, utility companies, schools and other agencies to obtain information.
- Take citizen reports, calls from workers and other agencies reporting possible fraud/over payments, investigating when appropriate.
- Log in referrals into EPICS, work with Accounting on cash payments and logging them into EPICS. Work with Tax Intercept procedures.
- Explain to clients and community eligibility requirements. Explain to clients why they have an over payment.
- Prepare summaries and present evidence for Administrative and State Hearings.
- Must be available to work mandatory emergency shelters & other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of eligibility experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or similar role.
The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
