The Associate Pipeline Technician locates high pressure transmission lines and marks them according to company specifications, installs pipeline markers at road crossings and along rights-of-way, performs leak surveys, patrols the pipeline per the Company's operations and maintenance procedures and completes required documentation.

This position reports to Company's Gastonia Operations Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Important Note:

This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing.

What You Will Do:

Position stakes out rights-of-way and locates for interested parties and works with contractors and land owners to ensure that the work performed around gas lines is in accordance with Company specifications.
Repairs coating damage and performs maintenance on vent markers, test stations and above ground facilities on the pipeline, investigates right-of-way issues including the investigation of documents held within the court records and/or right-of-way files and investigates encroachments and resolves right-of-way conflicts.
Position has transmission line and facility operations and maintenance inspection duties, and station and ground maintenance responsibilities.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Who You Are:

0 - 2 years of gas operations experience and locating experience.
A working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software, Gas Viewer, Field Manager, Locator Logix, and SAP.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions are critical.
Knowledge of the Company's operations and maintenance procedures.
Ability to read engineering pipeline drawings.
Ability to properly execute the Company's policies and procedures.
Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel, screwdriver, pipe wrench, drill, etc.).
Ability to work independently as well as a team member within a diverse team.
Occasional heavy lifting up to 70 lbs. independently.
Ability to adhere to safe working and driving procedures.
Preferred:

Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to pipeline maintenance, and engineering practices and procedures.
A minimum of one year of gas operations experience and locating experience.
Ability to meet a 45-minute response time from the geographical center of the Gastonia Region.
Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are preferred.
Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is highly preferred.
Successful applicant is expected to obtain a pesticide certification.
Other Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.).
Extensive walking for pipeline patrols is required.
Position requires travel throughout the service territory with safe parking in a wide variety of situations and driving in construction zones.
Position will encounter agitated/upset customers/property owners.
Applicants must be willing and able to work after hours, on-call rotations, nights and weekends as work needs dictate. Additionally, occasional overnight travel to other Company work locations may be required and is anticipated. Travel assignments may range from a day or two up to a few weeks. A complete understanding of the responsibility and dedication the position requires is essential.
Typical Hours 7:00 a.m.

- 3:30 p.m. (overtime, on-call rotations, night/weekend work will be required based on business need)
