Location: Gary, Indiana
Shift: 2:00 PM - 11:00 PM / 12:00 AM (10-Hour Shift)

We are hiring a skilled Diesel Technician to join a large, established hygiene and sanitation operation supporting a fleet of approximately 250 trucks. This is a union environment offering strong earning potential, outstanding benefits, and a team-oriented shop culture where technicians are trusted to work independently and contribute operational input.

What You'll Be Working On
Our fleet includes:
- Vacuum Trucks
- PTO Systems
- Hino Trucks (approx. 80%)
- Peterbilt (approx. 20%)
- Mack
- Flatbeds
What You'll Do
- Perform advanced diesel diagnostics and repairs
- Troubleshoot engines, drive trains, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Diagnose and repair PTO systems
- Perform preventative maintenance and full mechanical overhauls
- Utilize diagnostic software (Cummins INSITE preferred)
- Handle occasional road calls for emergency support
- Work independently while collaborating with a strong shop team
Shop Environment
- Full garage facility with 6-7 bays
- 4-5 employees per shift (3-4 Diesel Mechanics)
- Strong peer support and teamwork
- No micromanagement
- Bring your own tools
- Uniforms provided and laundered
- Afternoon shift: 2:00 PM start
- 10-hour shifts
- Typical 45-60 hours per week available
- Daily overtime available
- Sunday:
Double Time - Scheduled holidays: 2.5x Pay
Compensation
- $25.00 - $33.00/hour base
- $0.50/hour shift differential (union contract)
- Significant earning potential with overtime
- Health insurance: ~$25/week

- Strong diesel engine diagnostic skills
- Engine and drivetrain repair experience
- Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting expertise
- PTO system knowledge
- Experience using diagnostic software (Cummins INSITE preferred)
- Ability to work independently and make sound mechanical decisions
- Must possess a valid CDL Class B (Indiana), Indiana For-Hire endorsement, or Illinois Class C commercial license prior to start date and maintain a clean driving record.
