Job Description

We are seeking top-performing engineering students to join our Capital Projects team supporting a large portfolio of industrial investments ranging in size from under $1M to over $200M and higher. This highly selective internship provides direct exposure to the full lifecycle of complex capital projects - from Front-End Loading (FEL) and engineering design through construction and commissioning - within a large-scale steel manufacturing operation.

Interns work directly with experienced Project Managers and Construction Managers on active projects inside an operating facility.

Responsibilities

Project Development (FEL)

* Assist in development of project scopes and technical documentation

* Participate in multidisciplinary engineering design reviews

* Review equipment specifications and vendor proposals

* Support capital cost estimate and schedule development

* Conduct field walkdowns to validate design assumptions

Project Execution

* Attend cost, schedule, and contractor coordination meetings

* Track project progress and assist with change management

* Perform field observations of equipment installation and construction activities

* Participate in safety reviews and commissioning readiness activities

* Support documentation and turnover to operations

* Interns will work in active operating and construction areas and must wear required PPE.

Development Opportunity

This internship is designed as a pipeline into full-time Project Engineering and Capital Project Management roles. Interns receive direct mentorship, structured feedback, and exposure to senior engineering leadership.

Requirements

* Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree.

* Preferred majors:
Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.

* Candidates must be a current student and have completed their sophomore year by June 2026 and be in good academic standing.

* Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

* Work location is Gary, Indiana, USA

* Expected schedule is on-site 40 hours per week
