Us

21st Century Charter School at Gary is a part of a network of high-quality public charter schools that deliver the innovative GEO Academies model developed by the GEO Foundation. It joins Gary Middle College and GEO Next Generation High School Indianapolis in delivering a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. 21st Century Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades K-12.

Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from elementary school to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with local colleges and universities, our students will be able to take dual credit courses on the college campus to earn college and career credits at no cost to the student.

Our curriculum and our teaching methods are designed using Core Knowledge, Teach Like a Champion and blended learning model. We are a TAP school!

Reports To / Term

Principal

This is a full-time 10-month position.

Essential Position Functions
  • Clearly communicate all student behavioral, academic and attendance policies and procedures to relevant stakeholders
  • Communicate and collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, and school administrators on an ongoing basis
  • Motivate, support, and seek to inspire students to achieve high levels of academic success
  • Maintain high expectations for all students and staff members
  • Implement incentivized academic and behavioral programs targeted to attract and retain students
  • Address student discipline and attendance problems with a level of responsiveness appropriate to the severity of the problem
  • Provide effective follow-through in a firm, fair, and consistent manner around school culture and student discipline policies and plans; provide additional interventions and/or supports to students who demonstrate an unwillingness to comply with policy
  • Collect, interpret, manage, and utilize data to best support student progress and behavior
  • Conduct home visits when students are unresponsive to attendance and/or discipline related phone calls or letters
  • Assist the Principal with the implementation of standardized student enrollment and exit interviews, procedures, and processes
  • Collaborate with security personnel to design and implement a building security plan; maintain daily communication with campus security personnel
  • Assist the school leadership team with student recruitment and enrollment efforts
  • Establish and maintain strong community partnerships to foster the social, emotional, and academic development of our students
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with members of the local police and criminal justice system, including the probation officers of all active students
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Participate in staff development opportunities
  • Ensure the security of computer equipment and accessories
  • Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate by the Principal
Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Commitment to the mission and organizational goals of GEO Academies
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education related field
  • Three or more years of successful Dean or leadership experience working with students.
