Overview
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB:
Assists in the operation of wastewater treatment plants.
- Assists in monitoring, adjusting and recording data from gauges, meters, control panel and equipment to learn proper chemical treatment, pressures and flow rates of the wastewater system.
- Assists in extracting samples and performing routine laboratory tests and analyses.
- Responds to customer inquiries and complaints, providing information or referral.
- Maintains timely accurate records concerning treatment plant activities and conditions.
- Controls transfer and volume of waste from tanks.
- Replaces chlorine cylinders and regulates flow rates.
- Assists in inspection, cleaning and monitoring of mechanical equipment in the treatment plant.
- Assists in performing troubleshooting on process equipment.
- Performs general facility maintenance duties.
- Performs janitorial and grounds maintenance duties.
- Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED. Work experience that demonstrates mechanical aptitude is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a valid driver license.
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, 20 to 100 pounds of force frequently and 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery surfaces. Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any directions.
Must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s). Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Must be able to work for short or sustained periods of time exposed to a shaking object or surface. Is exposed to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gasses and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin.
Is exposed to possible bodily injury from mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery. Is exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock. Is exposed to possible bodily injury from explosions. Is exposed to possible bodily injury from chemicals/toxic agents, pathogenic substances and hazardous wastes. Is exposed to loud noise level. Must be able to perform manual labor and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
May be subject to confined spaces, rodents and insects. - Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of assigned facility and applicable components (i.e., equipment, meters, gauges, surfaces, cleaning materials and supplies).
- Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information; includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with coworkers.
- Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in Standard English. Must be able to speak with clarity, and to articulate information to others. Requires the ability to read and interpret a variety of policy and procedure manuals, and technical terminology regarding processing operations, equipment and machinery maintenance and meter/gauge interpretation.
- Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in or from standardized situations; to perform manual labor and machine operations; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
- Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; may require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages, compute ratio and proportion.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
