POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Summer Camp Assistant Director is responsible for leading the Y’s Summer Day Camp program including creating program and staff schedules, supervising staff, communicating with parents and stewarding relationships at the school or facility where the program is hosted.
Kinder camp is a half day Summer Camp program for preschool aged children and runs Monday - Friday from 9a-1p seasonally. They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
JOB SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday (8:15 AM - 1:15 PM)
Responsibilities- Leads the Summer Day Camp Program (program schedule, parent communication, staff oversight and training, staff scheduling, etc.).
- Provides leadership and guidance to all staff members on a daily basis.
- Assists supervisor in onboarding, training and evaluating program staff.
- Completes a program schedule for the program utilizing the YMCA of the Triangle curriculum framework.
- Responsible for communication to parents and caregivers including weekly newsletter and updates.
- Responsible for building and stewarding a positive relationship with branch or host facility staff, maintaining equipment and cleanliness of space.
- Opens/closes the program daily.
- Supports counselors with major discipline issues.
- Maintains necessary records for all campers in assigned programs in accordance with Association standards.
- Plans and leads all Family Nights and staff meetings throughout the summer.
- Holds assigned staff accountable to performance standards, including safety.
- Provides regular informal coaching as well as formal mid/end of summer evaluations for staff in line with Director’s feedback and support.
- Plans and leads assemblies.
- Responsible for working with leadership staff and prosto order necessary equipment for activities prior to the start of camp.
- Manages all camper and staff awards for camp.
- Facilitates the daily setup of camp and maintains the upkeep of all camp materials, equipment, and signage; helps open or close programs daily as assigned.
- Maintains First Aid, CPR Professional Rescuer (CPRO), Child Abuse Prevention, Epi-Pen, Emergency Medication Administration, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications/trainings and ensures that staff maintain current certifications as well.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Models relationship building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- High School Diploma/GED required with 2 years of experience leading children.
- Must have a strong background in group management, leading activities, planning and organizing.
- Must have knowledge of how Y programs run.
- Ability to work with and motivate parents, staff, and children.
- Must be sensitive and mature and able to provide leadership for counselor staff.
- Must be able to obtain Basic Life Support/First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, CPRO, and Epi-Pen certifications upon hire. Other trainings may be required upon hire.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multilingual desired but not required.
