Are you looking for fulfilling, part‑time work with City government? Our Raleigh Water department is hiring two Inventory Assistant positions to support managing purchase order requisitions, material stock, and receipt of inventory and services at our D.E. Benson Water Treatment Plant.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job‑related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Position StatusTemporary, Part‑Time
Work Schedule2 Days Per Week; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Maximum of 1,000 Hours Annually
Responsibilities- Process and submit requisitions for the creation of purchase orders. Review vendor quotes and service availability, select vendors within established guidelines, and determine supply levels, purchase timing, and required supply quantities.
- Respond to and prepare material stock requests. Confirm orders and oversee stock/material picking, issuance, and/or delivery.
- Receipt of inventory, materials, and/or services. Verify quantity and accuracy based on orders and/or completion of services, ensure inventory control system information and records are maintained, and that inventory is stored in or distributed to proper and safe locations.
- Monitor, audit, and maintain inventory counts, catalog, and related storage records. Identify and reconcile discrepancies and prepare and maintain related reports and statistics.
- Operate a City vehicle to travel to various work sites on a regular basis.
High school diploma (or GED) and 1 year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Licenses or Certifications- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

- Standard practices, techniques, and methods for organizing, prioritizing, assigning and monitoring work.
- Standard practices of inventory maintenance and control.

- Uses and properties of supplies and equipment, including specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium WorkExerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.; frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.; moderate exposure to hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids; frequent exposure to environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment;
frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure to intense noise or travel.
