GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Candidate should be pursuing a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Computer Forensics or Forensic Science and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Candidates with experience in either Analytical Chemistry or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or other laboratory experience are preferred.

There is no compensation for this Internship.
The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. None. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Independent work on project agreed upon with sponsoring institution and DPS.
2. Observing and, when feasible, assisting Forensic Scientists in routine tasks.
3. Assisting the laboratory with special projects including compiling and interpreting statistical data.
4. Assisting the Evidence Technicians in routine tasks.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Interns must be in or have completed their Junior Year of College by the time the internship starts. Should be pursuing a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Computer Forensics or Forensic Science and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Experience - None required.
Intern Responsibilities
- • Interns should be employable in the near future and be a competitive candidate.
• Interns must be able to meet the eligibility requirements for Forensic Scientist when they graduate.
i. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science,
chemical engineering or forensic science
* from an accredited university. With the appropriate amount of specialize course hours
required by the discipline.
* Forensic science programs must be either FEPAC-accredited OR meet the minimum curriculum requirements pertaining to natural science core
courses and specialized science courses set forth in the FEPAC Accreditation Standards.
• If the internship is being completed as part of a course or degree requirement, the passing criteria and expectations should be provided
along with the application.
• Interns must maintain a consistent schedule and be available 20-40 hours per week.
• Interns must be able to pass a background check.
• A program of study should be developed with the laboratory before the internship starts.
• Interns are highly encouraged to vaccinate against Hepatitis
B. The immunization requirement may be dropped provided a waiver is signed.
Regulatory knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Interpersonal Skills - Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
Organizational and Prioritization Skills - Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
Presentation/Communication Skills - Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
