General Summary & Scope

The Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, recommends products and services, and delivers quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. The Stylist supports the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager through performance, people, and process focus.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities

Performance

  • Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
  • Meet or exceed an average weekly sales goal of $800 and productivity goals by delivering exceptional guest service and contributing to store sales, loyalty, and retail shrink metrics.
  • Demonstrate business acumen and identify growth opportunities.
  • Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

  • Develop guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
  • Demonstrate high standards of customer service and salon image.
  • Serve walk‑in guests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store experience.
  • Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous development.

Process

  • Be knowledgeable of and comply with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures in accordance with state board guidelines.
  • Follow established service protocols for consistency and quality.
  • Use booking and clientele systems to schedule guests for return services and events.
  • Communicate supply needs to the EM to ensure guest readiness.
  • Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
  • Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
  • Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices.
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications

Education

  • Cosmetology license.

Experience

  • Previous relevant salon experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency with latest salon techniques across all service categories.
  • Proficiency with equipment and chemicals needed for technical work.
  • Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
  • Developed communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

Special Position Requirements

  • Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent mobility during shift.
  • Continuous lifting/moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching during shift.
  • Ability to stand for long periods during shift.
  • Continuously coordinate and manipulate objects during shift.

The pay range for this position is the higher of $15.92‑$19.00 per hour or services pay pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Pay is based on relevant factors. Eligible associates may earn overtime pay and tips. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits; part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
