Job Description:
General Statement of Duties:
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Career Development provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive, student-centered career development and employer engagement program that advances career readiness, equitable workforce outcomes, and post-graduation success for Mount Wachusett Community College students and alumni.
The Director is charged with overseeing MWCC's College and Career Alignment efforts, ensuring intentional alignment among academic programs, holistic advising, career readiness, employer engagement, and regional workforce demand, aligned with the College's Strategic Plan. This role plays a central function in advancing MWCC's Title III goals, including the development of integrated career pathways, cohesive first-year and onboarding experiences, and student-centered advising models.
The Director oversees all Career Development operations, including supervision of full-time and part-time career counselors, and serves as a member of the Enrollment Management leadership team. Working collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Workforce Development, faculty, staff, and external partners, the Director ensures that career development is embedded across the student lifecycle?from entry and onboarding through completion and employment.
Responsibilities:
* Provide strategic direction and administrative oversight for all Career Development services, programs, and initiatives supporting students and alumni, aligned with the College's Strategic Plan.
* Design and implement innovative, equity-minded career readiness and employment initiatives informed by national best practices.
* Supervise and support full-time and part-time career counselors, fostering a collaborative, equity-minded, and student-centered professional culture.
* Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management leadership team, contributing to integrated strategies that support recruitment, retention, persistence, completion, and post-graduation outcomes.
* Lead and advance institutional strategies that integrate career readiness throughout the student lifecycle, supporting early momentum and informed student decision-making.
* Continued development of MWCC's College and Career Alignment framework, as outlined in Title III, to strengthen career awareness during student onboarding and advising across academic pathways.
* Develop and implement a holistic career counseling framework that intentionally aligns academic advising, career exploration, and workforce preparation.
* Collaborate with Enrollment Management, Advising, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs to ensure career development is introduced early and reinforced throughout the first year and new student experience.
* Plan, coordinate, and host career fairs, employer networking events, industry panels, graduate fairs, and recruitment activities.
* Cultivate and sustain relationships with employers, workforce agencies, and community partners to expand internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities.
* Provide strategic oversight and administrative leadership for MWCC's career management platform (Handshake), ensuring effective system governance, data integrity, employer participation, student engagement, and alignment with institutional and Title III goals.
* Establish assessment practices and utilize data to evaluate effectiveness, inform continuous improvement, and align outcomes with institutional priorities.
* Oversee delivery of workshops and counseling related to job and internship search strategies, résumé and cover letter development, interviewing, networking, and career assessment.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be a current Mount Wachusett Community College Employee.
* Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Career Development, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.
* Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in career development, enrollment management, or higher education leadership.
* Experience collaborating with academic partners and employers to align programs with workforce demand.
* Strong understanding of student success frameworks and career development theory.
* Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, organizational, and project-management skills.
* Proficiency with career management platforms, student information systems, and productivity tools, including Handshake, Target
X CRM, Banner, Zoom, and Microsoft Office applications.
