Sr. Library Technician – Young Adult Services, Levi Heywood Memorial Library (Gardner)

We’re looking for an organized, friendly, engaging, and public-service-oriented person to fill the young adult services position at the Levi Heywood Memorial Library, the public library of Gardner, MA. We have been expanding our library programming and outreach in recent years in order to comply with our 5 year strategic plan, and we have been excited by the great turn-out from Gardner’s teens to our new programs.

This position is responsible for staffing the young adult desk; planning and running young adult programs; and collection development of young adult books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials under the supervision of a staff librarian or assistant director.

Provides community outreach and marketing to young adults, including visiting the schools and community center. Coordinates with other departments on multi-generational programming, and serves as back-up staff for other departments throughout the library.

Qualifications

High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Strong customer service experience, ability to show good judgement and flexibility. Experience working with children, especially teens, in groups required. Prior experience in libraries and familiarity with Evergreen software desired.

Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic desired.

Salary Notes

This is a part-time 18 hour/week position that requires evenings and Saturdays. Hours may be varied during school breaks.
