ELECTRIC INTERN

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Journeyman Lineman or Lead Electric Lineman, performs entry level professional work, research and support for the Electric Distribution Department. Participates in a variety of projects within the organization’s initiatives.

Job Scope

Duties and responsibilities are designed to further prepare the incumbent for a successful career in Electric Power Distribution. Employee does not have supervisory responsibility for subordinate personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs testing equipment to install and maintain electric service to residential, commercial, and industrial, city buildings, plants, street lighting, and other related activities.
  • Requires the employee to connect, test, and install equipment necessary to maintain safe and reliable electric service to customers and a safe work environment for fellow employees.
  • Attend and participate in various organizational meetings.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED supplemented with one (1) year of college course work and/or enrollment in an Electric Power and Distribution technical program. Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Tools and Equipment Used

The employee must operate various types of power and hand tools usually associated with secondary electric construction and maintenance as well as testing equipment such as voltage, ohm, amp continuity and other test equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of the position, the employee must be capable to negotiate rough terrain on foot to access maintenance problems;

must be capable of occasionally lifting fifty to one-hundred pounds (50-100 lbs.) or more during execution of duties. The position requires mobility to complete errands, flexibility of body, manual dexterity, and hand/eye coordination and working at heights well above ground level.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, this position functions primarily on a job site. Manual labor is required. Adverse weather conditions including prolonged exposure to temperature and precipitation extremes are a factor, as is exposure to fuels, exhaust, chemicals and hazardous implements and equipment.
