Overview
This role is responsible for managing the front desk at Core Fitness, providing excellent customer service, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and assisting with the day-to-day oversight of gym operations. The role helps create a welcoming environment while ensuring policies, procedures, and safety standards are followed.
Note:
This is a seasonal position that is not eligible for KPERS Retirement so employees in this role are unable to work more than 1,000 hours per year.
- Greet members and guests in a friendly, professional manner and provide information about gym amenities, programs, and policies.
- Check members in and monitor guest access in accordance with gym procedures.
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and direct questions or concerns to appropriate staff.
- Assist patrons with basic equipment use, facility orientation, and general questions.
- Oversee the gym floor to ensure safe use of equipment and adherence to posted rules.
- Perform regular cleaning and sanitizing of fitness equipment, locker rooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Restock supplies such as towels, cleaning materials, and hygiene products as needed.
- Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Enforce facility rules in a courteous and consistent manner.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing the facility.
- Complete basic administrative tasks such as logs, reports, or incident documentation.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to interact positively with patrons of all ages and fitness levels.
- Basic understanding of fitness equipment and gym safety practices (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to follow procedures, enforce rules, and handle minor conflicts professionally.
- Attention to cleanliness, safety, and detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Experience working in a gym, recreation center, or customer-facing environment is a plus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use point-of-sale systems, membership software, or scheduling tools.
- Willingness to perform routine cleaning and sanitizing tasks as part of daily operations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and cleanliness.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, move, or carry items such as cleaning supplies or equipment (typically up to 25–50 pounds).
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and sanitizing tasks.
- Indoor fitness facility with exposure to noise, fitness equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
- May require evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts.
