Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ER float pool position in Kansas, requiring a compact or KS RN license and extensive floating within the region.
Responsibilities- Position works in an acute care setting within the ER Float Pool across multiple hospital locations in a 60-mile radius of Garden City, KS
- Responsibilities include floating to any ER in Zone 4 facilities within the assigned region
- Night shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-5 based on patient acuity
- Daily ER census varies from 6 to 49 patients, with mixed types of cases including abdominal pain, DM, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and HTN
- Common ER procedures and drips are performed, and RNs perform both Point of Care lab testing and tele monitoring
- Charting is completed using Epic EMR and the ability to interpret telemetry is required
- No home base facility, float assignments are communicated according to the schedule
- Main duties include hands-on emergency nursing care for diverse patient populations and acuities
- Point of care lab testing training provided onsite; RNs are responsible for performing these tests
- Support staff includes techs for unit secretary duties and triage assistance, as well as 24/7 respiratory therapy
- Orientation is 2-3 days and must be completed in-state regardless of remote onboarding modules
- ERs are non-trauma designated but are STEMI receiving centers and stroke centers with send outs for higher level care
- RNs are required to wear navy blue scrubs
- Travelers receive their specific float facility assignment at the start of each schedule
- Returning employees are not eligible if employed by a Common Spirit facility within the past year in any capacity
- Active KS or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ER nursing experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), ENPC or PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Ability to float to ER units within a 60-mile zone is mandatory
- Driver’s license must be provided for consideration
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the float zone city center per radius rules
