Overview
Summary/objective The Cattle Buyer will coordinate the purchase and management of all cattle transactions for the feedlots and trade area in a manner that will optimize the cattle’s procurement strategy, improve the feedlots efficiency and profitability, help achieve the mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service. Responsibilities will include managing relationships with procurement partners, recordkeeping, space utilization and management, risk management strategy implementation, accurate and efficient communication, and other duties as assigned by management.
This position must always strive to represent the company in a positive and professional manner.
This position is located in Garden City, KS and requires on-site presence; it is not a remote role.

- Manage commercial relationships to ensure maximum value is derived by the company and manage cattle procurement and marketing relationships as assigned by management.
- Coordinate with feedlots and corporate teams to receive all feeder cattle volume measurements and, when needed, ensure that adequate inventory is available to meet year-round needs.
- Compliance with rules, regulations, risk management policy and contractual agreements in place.
- Establish bids based on market conditions and communicate with appropriate parties. Strong knowledge of local, regional and macro cattle industry. Strong and proficient communication of bid structures and strategies to partners and management.
- Work with risk management team to develop risk management strategies in conjunction with cattle origination strategies.
- Effective communication with the Management Team is critical to the successful business flow of operations. Communications may include:
- Anticipated yields, quality of cattle, expected variance to projected break-evens
- Anticipated amount of cattle to be delivered to each location
- Inventory needed to meet location goals and customer needs throughout the year
- Other duties as assigned.

- Regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Frequently required to talk or hear
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
- Must have valid driver’s license
- 20%
- Five or more years’ experience in feeder cattle procurement
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong background in feedlot business
