Electronic Signal Technician / Sr. Electronic Signal Technician

Applications are now being accepted for an Electronic Signal Technician / Sr. Electronic Signal Technician in the Traffic Operations Division at Ada County Highway District in the Boise, Idaho area. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The wage is $29.80 - $40.60, DOQ.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and modify electrical systems and traffic controllers in the shop and the field using software systems, electronic testing equipment, digital meters, analog traffic controllers, detectors, communication equipment and electromechanical traffic control equipment using digital meters, and various other electronic test equipment.
  • Conduct research and testing of new electronic traffic control systems, related equipment, and street lighting, consult representatives of public utilities to coordinate maintenance and operation of traffic signal and lighting systems, read blueprints, plans, schematics and perform work from oral and written instructions, document schematic drawings and blueprints for various projects, and assure completion of all documentation of daily activities as required.
  • Subject to 24-hour emergency on-call duty for a 7-day week on a rotating schedule.
Sr. Electronic Signal Technician
  • Maintain, repair, and modify electrical systems and traffic controllers in the shop and the field using software systems, electronic testing equipment, digital meters, analog traffic controllers, detectors, communication equipment and electromechanical traffic control equipment using digital meters, and various other electronic test equipment.
  • Conduct research and testing of new electronic traffic control systems, related equipment, and street lighting, consult representatives of public utilities to coordinate maintenance and operation of traffic signal and lighting systems, read blueprints, plans, schematics and perform work from oral and written instructions, document schematic drawings and blueprints for various projects, and assure completion of all documentation of daily activities as required.
  • Design, construct, and install test panel mock-up units, special logic units and various electronic circuits for traffic control, inspection of District built and maintained traffic signals for compliance with District specifications, electrical codes, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) requirements, inspect, develop, and recommend maintenance strategy for signal pole repairs, paint needs, etc.
  • Subject to 24-hour emergency on-call duty for a 7-day week on a rotating schedule.
Qualifications
  • Electronic Signal Technician
    • Requires good knowledge of computers and operating systems, electrical systems and peripheral equipment, safety practices and procedures applicable to tasks performed, traffic signal operations, logic circuits (both integrated circuit and discrete component design), and the National Electrical Codes (NEC) and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
    • Ability to operate all types of electronic test equipment, install and maintain electrical equipment, operate associated construction and maintenance equipment, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and operate a computer and related business and electronic software.
    • Experience in the field of electronics involving traffic controllers, data communication equipment, and logic processing equipment; completion of a standard high school course supplemented by college or technical school training in electronic technology; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities.
    • Required to obtain an Idaho Class “B” CDL driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
    • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited electrical program.
