Reeves Construction Company is currently seeking an experienced individual for the position of Asphalt Paver Screed Operator based out of Savannah, GA. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on safety excellence. The primary function of the Asphalt Paver Screed Operator is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish, and to maintain the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.

Responsibilities
  • Set up paver screed and lay a uniform thickness.
  • Demonstrate accurate and working knowledge of the paver screed (e.g., correct speed, checking material from the truck, staying on straight lines).
  • Lead the crew when required.
  • Maintain and keep the paver and screed clean.
  • Be willing and able to work nights and weekends.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner.
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to climb onto and off a machine several times a day.
  • Must be able to sit in a machine and operate it for several hours at a time.
  • Must withstand vibration from job site conditions and noise from other equipment.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform manual duties, such as handling materials on the vehicle.

The following physical and sensory requirements may be needed: manual dexterity, vision (20/40 or corrected), hearing, and ability to lift up to 60 pounds. The work may require exposure to outdoor conditions and varying weather.

Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and loud noise levels.
