Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or recognized equivalent and basic knowledge in industrial/commercial craft/trade approved by Property Services Leadership (e.g., Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms).
Two years of general experience working in at least one of the above-mentioned crafts. Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post‑offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. Requires ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle, frequent bending, standing, and walking.
Job DescriptionPerform general/basic level work in at least one industrial/commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Fire Alarms) with two years of experience for maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building systems and equipment.
May be required to pass a Department of Justice security clearance.
Job Duties- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers for all Property Services (Physical Plant).
- Perform detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation; inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
- Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
- Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
- Assist in major maintenance repairs.
- Perform duties associated with all crafts as developing skills safely allows.
- Support area shift coverage, on‑call duties, and after‑hours or extended projects as needed for a 24/7 institution.
- Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness lists (e.g., E1A Ride‑out team or E1B Recovery team).
- Complete all UTMB‑required compliance training.
- Attend staff training and safety meetings.
- Identify and report safety hazards.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Perform related duties as required.
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments. May be exposed to communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, adverse weather, temperature extremes, electrical and mechanical hazards, high locations, crawlspaces, and confined spaces. May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
Usual working conditions located in craft shops and mechanical rooms with exposure to construction areas and hazardous conditions.
EquipmentUse of hand and power tools in industrial building trades. Basic computer skills and use of handheld electronic communication devices. Skills with diagnostic testing equipment.

Salary RangeActual salary commensurate with experience.
Work ScheduleMonday through Friday; may be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
