Gardens Associate

The Gardens Associate supports the management of Groundswell’s gardens, is supervised by the Gardens Director & carries out various gardening tasks to ensure bountiful crop production.

Reports to: Gardens Director

Works with: Gardens Director, Deputy Gardens Manager, volunteers

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

• Watering, weeding, compost management, etc.
• Rotating watering schedule agreed upon with the Gardens Director.
• Support the existing community environment built through cheerful and accountable interactions with volunteers, partners, students and site facility staff.
• Conduct regular inventory of supplies and infrastructure; care for equipment and bring necessary maintenance, replacement, or reordering to the Gardens Director.

Meets weekly either in person or via phone/teleconference to discuss the status of current projects and to take on new and shifting tasks.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Time management skills, high attention to detail & self-motivating focus required.
• A positive attitude & strong work ethic.
• Preference given to applicants passionate about sustainable & organic food production.
• Ability to prioritize & complete multiple tasks within time restraints & minimal management.
• Willingness to learn and expand job skills.
• Flexible time schedule to accommodate variable hours.
• Must have reliable transportation and access to a computer with internet connection.

• Horticulture and gardening experience is preferred; relevant education/degree is a plus.
• Experience with production farming, landscape maintenance and use of garden tools and equipment is preferred.

• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Should be able to lift approximately 50 lbs.
• Should be able to work on their feet for hours at a time.
