Job Summary

Per diem position. To provide competent age and specialty appropriate nursing care to assigned patients and to ensure the safety and comfort of patients/families according to legal, ethical, institutional, and professional standards.

Responsibilities
  • Competently and accurately assess patients and identify nursing diagnosis/patient care needs.
  • Plan and prioritize age and specialty appropriate care of each patient assigned, including patient/family education in daily plan, communicating relevant information to appropriate health care professionals, ensuring planned interventions are consistent with the overall plan(s) of care, adhering to identified discharge plan, and being familiar with the standards of care applicable to assigned area.
  • Safely deliver age & specialty appropriate nursing care to assigned patients, executing physicians’ orders, administering medications and treatments, encouraging patient/family participation, providing emotional support, performing routine technical procedures and skills in the specialty area, providing patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching, and practicing proper aseptic technique, infection control measures, and body mechanics.
  • Evaluate patient/family response and outcomes of implemented care and modify the plan of care accordingly.
  • Complete accurate, concise, and legible documentation on all patient, unit, and hospital records.
  • Respect and support patient rights, practicing principles of patient and employee confidentiality, recognizing ethical dilemmas, utilizing available resources, and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Practice positive guest and patient relations, communicating professionally, reporting and seeking assistance with guest complaints, and establishing a positive rapport with patient/family.
  • Utilize research‑based nursing interventions and support unit‑based quality improvement activities, including cost containment for patients and the unit.
  • Prioritize and organize work to complete assignments within specified time frames, using time, equipment, and supplies efficiently.
  • Act as an interdependent and supportive team member, assist in maintaining a positive learning environment, provide constructive feedback, and remain current on job‑related knowledge and skills with ongoing education, in‑service, credentialing, and licensure requirements.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience
  • RN with current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.
  • Two (2) years full‑time clinical RN experience with at least two (2) years in the specialty area assigned (or similar experience).
  • Current BCLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Equipment
  • Able to use equipment and related supplies for a selected patient population.
  • Able to use mechanical devices, such as those used in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen administration, and intravenous therapy.
  • Able to use related computer equipment.
Work Environment
  • Work environment located in a comfortable indoor area.
  • Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace, and/or fumes may cause discomfort.
  • Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required (walking, standing, performing CPR, lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients).
  • Occasional lifting may be very heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
  • Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate to perform tasks accurately such as reading small print and monitoring equipment, and communicating orally.
  • Shift work is required at least 2 days per month.
  • Alertness and careful attention to detail required to avoid injury.
  • May be exposed to occupational hazards: communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
