General Description
The purpose of this class is to manage the installation, repair and maintenance of the county’s drainage systems.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Directs the mowing of roadside ditches and major outfall ditches.
- Directs the repair of guardrails, barricades and street signs.
- Coordinates and directs the transport of material to work sites.
- Estimates materials required for the completion of projects.
- Supervises the pick-up and disposal of trash and brush.
- Reports equipment failure and maintenance needs.
- Maintains daily log of work performed.
- Maintains daily time and work sheets.
- Operates light to heavy equipment as needed.
- Transports equipment to work sites as needed.
- Participates in emergency management operations, including emergency preparedness, initial response, and long-term recovery operations.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires one year of experience in street, drainage or beach construction, repair or maintenance or closely related experience.
Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 3
Special Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Requires the ability to acquire an herbicide spray license.
