Materials Handling Technician - Galveston Supply Chain Operations

Job Summary

Support all aspects of the UTMB Supply Chain Management Logistics Division. Perform basic clerical and manual tasks involved in the verification, receipt, storage, issuance, and delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment (medical/surgical). Utilize manual skills in collecting, marking, sorting, finishing, and distributing linens and garments. Maintenance and dispersion of linen supplies. Maintain proper inventory levels and stock linen carts.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure accuracy of the inventory within the Materials Management Warehouse, Hospital Materials Management storerooms, and unit supply rooms (PAR locations / Point of Use technology).
  • Prepare and assist in cycle count verifications and annual inventory.
  • Consistently work toward achieving the fill rate objective.
  • Process all incoming supplies and equipment; monitor quality assurance inspections of items received; verify receipts for missing, damaged, expired, or wrong items and report discrepancies.
  • Properly store supplies for stock; adhere to special handling instructions; ensure locations and quantities on hand are correct.
  • Fulfills customer requests/orders for stocked materials and supplies (medical/surgical & non-medical/surgical) with accuracy.
  • Distributes materials and supplies (medical/surgical & non-medical/surgical), including the Point of Use program, to the UTMB System.
  • Turn in excess, expired, or damaged supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Provide customer service support by assisting customers, answering phones, and processing requests.
  • Work safely and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Stay current with required training and developments in the field.
  • Collaborate with multiple work teams to meet outcomes that benefit customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external customers to proactively understand needs.
  • Operate standard materials handling equipment; forklift operation may be required if assigned to the Warehouse.
  • Use email and the Internet for work-related communications.
  • Maintain vehicle usage logs, inspect tires, check oil, refuel weekly, keep vehicle clean, and report maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Demonstrate cross-training skills in linen handling during routine activities.
  • Convey materials from receiving to storage or designated areas.
  • Perform quality checks on linen before distribution.
  • Set up, configure, and reorganize supply cabinets or areas to maximize inventories; maintain inventory records.
  • Coordinate with other Linen Services Technicians when supervisor is away or requires attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with staff, management, and customers.
  • Ability to use a computer, both desktop and handheld.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Manual dexterity and memory are critical to this function.
  • Ability to lift up to 63 lbs floor to knuckle and 50 lbs knuckle to shoulder.
Salary Range

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule

8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
