Overview
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
JOB SUMMARY
:
Directs the management of nursing services and the supervision of the professional and ancillary staff on a correctional facility. Interprets, implements and monitors standards for health services in compliance with ACA standards and UTMB Correctional Managed Care systems policies and departmental procedures.
- Contribute to the success of the UTMB Correctional Managed Care operation.
- Provide leadership and direction for the facility nursing services staff.
- Provide regular communication of information to facility staff regarding unit operational, regional and system-wide issues.
- Ensure the delivery of competent and safe patient care, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
- Participate in budget formulation and management.
- Ensure facility compliance with institutional, professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
- Assure that all staff are oriented to and competent in the performance of their duties.
- Develop and implement quality assurance/improvement program at the facility.
- Implement utilization management programs at the facility.
- Assume 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the operation of the facility.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
- Perform related duties as required.
Standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.
Work Environment- Located in a clean and safe medical facility within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center.
- Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped work space and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
- Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
- Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitor equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
- Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
- May be exposed to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
- Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing activities.
- May be required to be on standby and work extended hours in extraordinary situations.
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, current license approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.
- Master's degree in Nursing or a related field with two (2) years of nursing supervisory experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with three (3) years of nursing supervisory experience.
- Associate's degree or diploma in Nursing with four (4) years of nursing supervisory experience.
Twenty-four (24) Hour Accountability Is Required On This Position. Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
