Job DescriptionThe postdoctoral fellow will conduct, report and present research in his/her field of study under the supervision of a faculty mentor. This is a training position, and is not expected to be a permanent position.
Essential Job FunctionsThe successful candidate will design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and, in some cases, design new protocols; summarize findings and publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory and provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers. Conduct innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the development of a diagnostic test for Rocio virus infection and evaluation of an NS2B-3 inhibitor in a Rocio murine model. This will be supported by in vitro assays, samples generated from the development of the mouse model and testing of the inhibitor in Rocio-infected mice as well as assisting with the generation of immune serum and other work with a longtime collaborator to test the efficacy of adenovirus‑vectored vaccines against Mayaro and chikungunya viruses.
