Bachelor degree and one year experience or High School diploma or equivalent and three years clerical or customer service experience
JOB DESCRIPTIONScope/Function:
The Surgery Scheduler coordinates operating rooms and the schedules of surgeons/staff needed for the procedure.
Collects and analyzes data on patient surgical cases and availability of operating suites to improve patient care and maximize operating room utilization.
Tasked with maintaining balanced operations between nursing services, anesthesia, faculty/community surgeons, and available equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Identify and assign operating suites for all surgical cases in conjunction with various suite capabilities and available clinical staff.
- Responsible for facilitating patient assignments and communicates regularly with the clinical operations staff on all placement issues so that they can be addressed promptly.
- Perform data entry of patient accounts, including but not limited to procedure description and code, region, laterality, anesthesia type, Surgeon, service, and pre-op diagnosis.
- Answers calls and provides high level customer service in all interaction with customers.
- Maintains patient confidentiality regarding access to patient and other clinical information via email, computer, and fax.
- Addresses concerns of clinical teams and provides recovery and escalates issues to appropriate chain of command as needed.
- Monitor case durations and make appropriate adjustments as requested to ensure accurate scheduling.
- Ensure financial authorization of scheduled elective cases. Work in conjunction with financial team to escalate clearance on necessary patients.
- Provides department leadership updates regarding placement needs.
