Minimum Qualifications- Currently enrolled in the JSSOM IMC curriculum or a graduate program in pathology, biology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of basic pathology concepts and principles, with pathology coursework or experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with college students and instructors.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Interest in working with low-income, first‑generation college students, and individuals from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Previous experience in coaching, mentoring, teaching, or counseling roles preferred.
The JAMP Teaching Student Assistant (or JAMP TA) is a vital member of the medical student staff responsible for leading the UTMB JAMP Summer II Internship. This role involves leading a introductory IMC (Integrated Medical Curriculum) course and engaging in minimal mentoring activities. It offers an exceptional opportunity for current graduate or medical students passionate about teaching to gain valuable experience in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student mentorship.
This comprehensive role requires dedication, strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to supporting the academic and personal growth of JAMP scholars during their summer internship.
- Collaborate with faculty course liaison to design lesson plans, activities, and assessments aligned with course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Research and compile relevant materials, resources, and multimedia content to enhance course content delivery.
- Lead interactive classroom sessions, effectively communicating complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Facilitate discussions, group activities, and case studies to foster critical thinking and problem‑solving skills among students.
- Design and administer quizzes, exams, and other assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments, assessments, and participation to support student growth.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as grading assignments, maintaining course records, and managing communication with students.
- Mentor two JAMP scholars individually throughout the summer internship, including a minimum of two mentoring sessions per week.
- Spend one hour per week preparing for mentoring sessions and attend training workshops for JAMP Peer Mentors.
- Attend virtual weekly meetings with the JAMP Medical School Coordinator and participate in interview practice sessions with scholars.
- Provide constructive feedback on non‑cognitive aspects and submit scholar evaluations by pre‑determined deadlines.
