Department Chair for Graduate Studies – School of Nursing
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Nursing (SON), founded in 1890, is one of the oldest nursing schools in the Southwest. As part of UTMB, SON offers a full spectrum of nursing programs ranging from baccalaureate to PhD.
The Department Chair reports directly to the Vice Dean for Academics and leads the graduate nursing programs. Core responsibilities include:
- Overseeing administration, strategic planning, and academic excellence of graduate programs.
- Managing faculty professional development, workload, teaching assignments, scholarship support, recruitment, and evaluation.
- Promoting student success and engaging in special projects to enhance culture and productivity.
- Doctoral Degree in nursing or related field (MSN required if doctoral degree is in a related field).
- Eligibility for or achieved rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
- Eligibility for licensure or unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Texas.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Significant experience in academic leadership, preferably within a nursing school.
- A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service in nursing education.
- Experience and knowledge of accreditation processes and curriculum development.
