- ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE, 7-12
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- AND Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (see NM PED licensure link: webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/athletic-coach-7-12/)
- and completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)
- 1. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- 2. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. (Major sports)
- 3. The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and must continually examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- 4. The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.
The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
Work EnvironmentOn-site attendance is mandatory for this position.
SupervisesIn several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
Job GoalTo instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach should also model behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. To upgrade knowledge through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
Work with students interested in sports, provide practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. This role involves work on evenings and weekends.
