Responsibilities- Initiates treatment, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on standing ICU orders, ACLS protocol, and providers orders.
- Uses critical thinking and nursing judgement to recognize changes and characteristics that may affect the patient s health status.
- Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician, such as medication treatments, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, nasogastric tubes, internal and external catheters, wound care, etc.
- Observes and assesses critically ill patients health status by conducting a nursing assessment and examination, interviewing patients and family members, and reviewing health history and ongoing hemodynamic monitoring.
- Develops a plan of care for individual patients by assessing their condition, reviewing their health record, and determining the kind of nursing care required to meet the patient s needs and goals.
- Maintains required certifications such as ACLS and BLS.

- IHS selectees may be subject to Employee Health Policies related to Measles and Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations. Vaccine exemption requests may be available according to guidance.
- The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained, adverse actions may occur, up to removal from Federal service.
- On-call hours or standby duty may be required

- Position subject to rotating shifts; days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift rotations may vary from 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts

Background Investigation
:
This position requires successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment. Applicants must complete required forms within five calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays. Maintain regular communication with the assigned Personnel Security Specialist throughout the process.
Qualifications

Education
This position has an education requirement. Submit transcripts or a list of courses including titles, hours, and grades. Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by recognized accrediting bodies may be credited. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcript. Basic Requirements
- Education:
A nursing degree from an accredited program (CCNE, COA, ACME, or equivalent recognized by the U.S. Department of Education) at the time the degree was obtained. Foreign nursing graduates require certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. - Licensure:
Passed the National Council Licensure Examination and hold a current, active nursing license/registration in an applicable U.S. jurisdiction. - Experience:
At GS-7 and above, some positions may require specialized nursing experience.
Grade Level Requirements
- GS-7: Bachelor s degree in nursing with eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement, or equivalent experience as listed, or other qualified combinations.
- GS-9: Master s degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- GS-11: Doctoral degree or equivalent advanced nursing education, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, with duties such as developing care plans, monitoring life support equipment, and coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team.
