About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Accountant specializing in general ledger ownership and period-end close leadership. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing close cycles, and supporting internal and external reporting. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to enhance processes and controls.
Responsibilities- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries, accrual schedules, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain general ledger structure, including chart of accounts and account coding integrity.
- Review and analyze account activity to identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.
- Prepare internal financial statements, management reports, and audit schedules.
- Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors during interim and year-end procedures.
- Interpret GAAP and internal policies; research technical accounting matters as needed.
- Support the Controller on accounting policy development and complex transactions.
- Maintain and track schedules related to federal, state, and local estimated tax payments.
- Complete tax apportionment updates and reconcile tax-related general ledger activity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners in AP, AR, Credit, Payroll, and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assist with ERP enhancements, including module optimization and system control improvements.
- Develop and maintain internal SOPs, process documentation, and internal controls.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and accuracy.
- Select tools, techniques, and approaches to support accounting projects and initiatives.
- Support additional accounting tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
- CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting concepts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience with ERP systems;
Net Suite preferred. - Ability to prepare reports, schedules, and detailed work papers with accuracy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Standard office environment.
- Light physical requirements include lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently, with some filing and bending as needed.
