• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and have a current registered nurse licensed with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
• He/she should have experience as a charge nurse/supervisor with demonstrated administrative and supervisory competence.
• CPR certification is required.
• Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management.
• Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing.
• Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.
• Ability to discern legal implications in nursing.
• Leadership ability, integrity and initiative. Ability to motivate personnel.
• Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.
• Maintains harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
• Ability to work primarily evenings and nights.

• Supervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner, and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.
• Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
• Performs all nursing functions within the scope of practice in the State of Virginia.
• Ability to work with Paragon applications (computer system).
• Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system.
• Ability to use GRASP acuity system.
• Education – Uses the nursing process to meet patient/family learning needs.
• Professionalism – Applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.
• Consistently communicates with co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments, and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.
• Reliability – Ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.
• Functions as a role model and resource nurse for clinical practice to co-workers, students, and medical staff to help build and maintain a professional environment.
• Ability to complete reports, projects, and unit goals within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
• Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.
• Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provide of psych/social/cultural support.

Walking and standing for long periods of time, depending on hospital-wide workload.

Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside hospital to the Materials Management Department.

Walking surfaces vary from hallways to pavement.

Sitting for periods of time throughout day, 15 minutes to one hour in office and at nurse’s stations.

Lifting – regularly assists with lifting patients (weights up to 300+ pounds waist high).

Routinely lifts packages, boxes and books.

Bending required frequently, 45-90 angles, to check patients, to operate machinery.

Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description.
