Description

• A. Accountable for management and administration of medications to the adult and senior adult behavioral health patient.
• B. Directly assist patients with their personal hygiene, and grooming.
• C. Responsible to assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

  Working Conditions:
• A. Hazard potential per possibility of physical acting out behavior, health related communicable diseases, and /or potentially dangerous equipment.
• B. Ability to exercise self control in potentially violent situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner.
• C . Work does involve mental activity and ability to work and concentrate amidst interruptions, distractions, such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic, and be able to move from one task to another and to meet deadlines.
• D . Must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinion.
• E. Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, climb stairs, moving about in work area and throughout hospital to accomplish tasks finger (i.e., pick or type) and grasp.
• F .
  Reading and writing and ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken work, conveying information to others in an audible, accurate and, on occasion, quick manner.
  
  Is aware of non-verbal communication and makes appropriate use of it.
• G .Able to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
• H .Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
• I. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• J. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity to read, prepare, and analyze data, transcriptions, and characters on computer, visual inspection of documents, and similar objects or items at distances generally close to eyes and visually observe people and the environment.
• K .While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside, work performed outside may include walking on paved surface or ground, strenuous outside activities and escorting patients to their vehicles.
• L .Able to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than 40 db. loss at Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
• M. May require assisting in lifting and turning (up to 300+ pounds) of patients and assisting actively in patient care.
• O. Exposure to infectious diseases or conditions and hazardous waste is moderate and therefore, must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.
• P . Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic boundaries with patients during inpatient treatment and after discharge.

Education and Experience:

• A .Graduated from an approved school of nursing and have a current license by the State Board of Nursing in Virginia to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse
• B. Basic CPR certification is required.
• C . One year experience in administering medications to the adult and senior adult patient in a general hospital setting is preferred.
• D .Experience in Behavioral Health nursing is preferred.
