Security Assistant, Watkins Mill HS, 8hrs/10mos, REPOSTED

Role at Montgomery County Public Schools applies to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Receives guidance from the security team leader on more difficult or unusual situations.

• Assist in screening visitor access to school facilities.
• Support maintaining student class attendance and other security-related operations.
• Follow directions from the security team leader for more difficult or unusual situations.

Sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to walk and stand for long periods and to complete security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.

• Work flexible hours, including weekends, as assigned by the principal/security team leader to provide maximum security coverage.
• Occasionally work overtime.
• Wear the designated security uniforms.

Only candidates who completed the screening interview for this position with the Dept. School Safety & Security will be considered. Preference to bilingual English/Spanish candidates with working knowledge of safety procedures/practices; knowledge of behavior management techniques; investigative procedures; and excellent written/oral communication skills.

• Education:
  
  High School or GED diploma required. Associate degree preferred. College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields.
• Experience:
  
  Experience in work involving welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational environment. Experience in investigation desirable. Experience in safety and security of persons and property, preferably as a police officer.
• Certificates:
  Possession of a valid Maryland class C noncommercial driver's license, or equivalent. First aid and CPR certification.
• Skills:
  
  Knowledge of safety and welfare procedures, behavior management techniques, security practices and procedures; effective communication with students and staff; ability to work under team leader supervision; strong written and verbal communication; familiarity with the seven core SSPGS competencies.
