Salary: $160 per hour
PREP Research AssociateThis position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST encourages collaboration with researchers at academic institutions, which must be the recipients of a PREP award. The program aims to involve staff from diverse backgrounds in scientific research across various fields. Employees will perform technical work supporting collaborative scientific research.

Cost Estimation for Enhanced Building Performance
The work will entail:The researcher will contribute to NIST's mission to enhance quality of life through measurement science, focusing on resilience to natural disasters.
Responsibilities include:
- Advancing economic evaluation frameworks for seismic design of existing buildings, including case studies for retrofitting for functional recovery.
- Developing cost estimates for replacing or retrofitting building components to improve performance against WUI fires.
- Creating repair cost estimation models to quantify damages to non-structural building components.
- Supporting economic evaluations of design archetypes or case studies.
- Writing and presenting findings to academic, government, industry, and general audiences.
- Industry experience in construction cost estimation is required.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentations for research and practitioner audiences.
- Interest or experience in working within interdisciplinary teams.

Purpose: NIST's PREP program provides laboratory experience and financial assistance to students, post-bachelors, postdocs, and faculty. It is a 5-year cooperative agreement with participating universities across various scientific disciplines.
Routine Uses: NIST will use collected information for application review and program management, as detailed in the Privacy Act System of Records Notices: NIST-1: NIST Associates.
