Who We Are

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is made up of approximately 1,300 sworn officers and approximately 800 support personnel. The Police Department was established in 1922, and today is responsible for providing service to a County with a population of over one million people.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking to fill the Office Services Coordinator position within our Telephone Reporting Unit (TRU) with an individual who possesses excellent customer service skills, communication skills, report writing skills and clerical support. This position provides clerical support to officers in the processing, initiating, searching, and canceling information about persons charged with a crime and property reported stolen and property recovered by officers.

Also, answering non‑emergency calls from the community and writing police incident reports. This unit functions in a 24/7 capacity and the work schedules are based upon seniority in the unit and is determined by an annual shift bid process for bargaining unit employees. This is an essential position and requires working some holidays and occasional overtime hours.

Applicants Must Have The Ability To
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the MCPD. ( 8 week process )
  • Pass a medical examination.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Compiling, reviewing for accuracy, and entering stolen vehicle information, stolen vehicle tags and parts, missing persons, and initiating cancellations of such upon arrest or property recovery into METERS/NCIC databases.
  • Processing request from officers for criminal warrant status on individuals, and for vehicles, vehicle tags and parts, and other property items which may be stolen.
  • Answering non-emergency calls, interviewing callers, and writing police reports.
  • Receiving and placing phone calls and web postings for law enforcement officials, individuals, and other agency staff to provide or accept information related to law enforcement information.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible office support experience.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
  • Experience with Microsoft Office:
    Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.; and creating and updating PDF documents.
  • Experience communicating and eliciting essential information over the phone and in person.
  • Experience using law enforcement computer applications, to include the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Maryland Electronic Telecommunications Enforcement Resource System (METERS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and EJustice records management system.
  • Experience working with competing priorities and readjusting tasks to complete within quick turnaround times.
